Smart Home Automation: The Future is Now
October 1, 2022
When The Jetsons premiered in 1962, show writers William Hanna and Joseph Barbera imagined the future in 100 years. They created George Jetson, the “dad of the future,” to lead his family in the space age with the technology of smart home automation. According to eagle-eyed fans, George’s birth date was set in the year 2022.
While we may not have flying cars just yet, we have many of the conveniences depicted in the year 2062, such as video calls, smart watches, space tourism, and food delivery with a touch of a button. These “space-age products” arrived earlier than The Jetsons predicted.
Smart home automation provides homeowners security, comfort, convenience, and energy efficiency by allowing them to control smart devices, often by a smart home app on their smartphone or other networked devices. A part of the internet of things (IoT), smart home systems and devices often operate together, sharing consumer usage data and automating actions based on the homeowners’ preferences.
So what happens when Intelligent Living Solutions, your local smart home experts, cross paths with a forward-thinking, local home builder? A thing of technological beauty!
Smart Home Automation Capabilities
When Scott Bates, owner of Christopher Scott Homes, a Central Indiana homebuilder, was building his own home, he turned to Intelligent Living Solutions to bring smart home automation to his fingertips. While most people incorporate one or two smart home automation technologies into their lives, Scott wanted to make his entire home automated.
Conveniences
The new home includes many conveniences, such as presence-sensing lighting, with color changes to match the mood. Also, automated shades that cover windows on a schedule or at the occupant’s request. A fireplace to help set the tone of the evening. Speakers throughout the entire house to play your favorite tunes. Everything can be on a schedule or on-demand.
Efficiency
These conveniences add a nice touch to make a home comfortable and also add to energy and cost efficiencies. Lights automatically turn off if no one is in a room or the house. Programmable thermostats can heat and cool at certain times or reduce energy when no one is home. Presence-sensing technology can learn your routines and adjust accordingly. All of this and more can be managed from a single control panel or app, or be programmed to happen behind the scenes without you having to touch a button.
Safety and Security
Perhaps one of the most important parts of the new home was installing a smart home automation system with security. It was a top priority. The home can “sense” when you’ve left the premises and lock up the whole house and turn on the alarm for you. Being able to control access to the home gives homeowners peace of mind.
When to Install Smart Home Automation
While installing the wiring and technology components is easiest during the building process, homeowners can start applying smart home automation components at any time! Start with one application – like lighting or security – or fully automate your home for ultimate control and convenience.
